Charles de Gaulle
Synopsis
The Jackal is an elusive assassin who makes his living by carrying out high-paying assassinations. He soon meets a worthy rival in the form of a tough British intelligence officer who finds himself in a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase in 1963. The show moves to the modern age.
Lynch was poorly cast
Graham Norton and guests: Denzel Washington/Paul Mescal/Saoirse Ronan/Eddie Redmayne/Blossoms (2024). TLDR: Redmayne does a great job. Unfortunately, the main roles are not on the same level as each other, which detracts from an otherwise impressive and high-quality production.
Overall, the story is a viable adaptation
There is no Lynch nuance, it’s just a high bar that Redmayne has set. A more experienced actor would probably have provided a more believable adversary/opponent character to challenge the Jackal. The character development sort of works, although some things are left open in the main character narratives, but that could be desired.
The deceptive barometer is always working in the background
The locations, the different interactions, and Redmayne’s introduction of languages ββand changing characters really add a special layer to the story arc. I’m looking forward to how Se01 ends and how they maintain or improve on the quality in Se02. Hopefully Lynch will ease the pressure and give a more refined game to try to meet Redmayne.
If so, Se02 could be very promising
