The episode takes place after the events of the game
Synopsis
Original stories set in the worlds of iconic video games are featured in this animated anthology series. Video games have made the leap to the screen in a big way, and we’re celebrating the genre with a closer look at over 50 video game adaptations into movies and shows. Clive Standen will reprise his voice role as Demetrius Titus, the main character from the video game Space Marine 2.
The list of titles is bewildering
A couple of great episodes aside, Secret Level feels like a monument to mediocrity. The writing is painfully middling, dragging the entire show down despite the undeniably stunning visuals, though even those feel like reheated leftovers from a decade’s worth of superior video game cinematics. Honestly, what is this show trying to do or say that hasn’t been done (and done better) by video game marketing in the last 10 years?
Where are the big names?
The absence of heavyweights says one thing: either the developers didn’t want any part of this mess or they were waiting to see if Season 1 could achieve success. Spoiler alert: It didn’t. The short storytelling seems to completely elude the creators.
What should have been concise, impactful and memorable comes off as disjointed and uninspired
Variety called it an “uninspired bore,” and for once, Variety wasn’t harsh enough. Secret Level is proof that flashy visuals can’t hide a lack of vision, heart or originality. “One Hundred Years of Solitude” is one of the biggest TV and streaming premieres this month.
